October-November 2024
- NTPC Limited, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP), has developed a catalyst to produce methanol using gases emitted from fossil-fired power plants.
- Reliance Enterprises recently collaborated with Druk Holding and Investments Ltd (DHI), the commercial arm of Bhutan’s government, to develop a 1,270 MW solar and hydroelectric power project in Bhutan.
- In a first, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) will operate 220 MW small nuclear plants with funding and land provided by private players.
- The Union Ministry of Power launched the National Electricity Plan (Transmission) to achieve 500 GW of Renewable Energy Installed Capacity by 2030 and over 600 GW by 2032, developed by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
- According to the Renewable Energy and Jobs – Annual Review 2024 report, 347 gigawatts (GW) of photovoltaic (PV) capacity were added globally in 2023.
August – September 2024
- The Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, the Arab world’s first nuclear power plant, is located in Al Dhafra, Emirate of Abu Dhabi, UAE.
- In the field of nuclear energy, Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) have signed an MoU for the operation and maintenance of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant.
- China recently planned to build the world’s first Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) fueled by molten thorium salt liquid fuel.
- Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) received the first-ever order to demonstrate methanol firing in a Gas Turbine at the 350-MW Kayamkulam Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) in Kerala.
- BHEL secured three major contracts worth Rs 11,000 crore from Adani Power Ltd and its subsidiary Mahan Energen Ltd to supply equipment and oversee the erection and commissioning of three supercritical thermal power plant projects in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
July 2024
- Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged a Rs 13,300 crore order to set up a 1600 MW (2X800MW) thermal power plant in Koderma, Jharkhand from Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).
- Asian Development Bank (ADB) has partnered with the ENGIE group to build a 400-megawatt solar photovoltaic power plant in Gujarat.
- Tata Power Solar Systems Limited has launched the ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ initiative in Uttar Pradesh, aimed at providing every home with clean energy through rooftop solar solutions.
- Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank) has signed an agreement with Guyana to provide an India-supported Line of Credit (LoC) of USD 2.50 million for installing a solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant.
- China has unveiled the world’s first dual-tower solar thermal power plant, which utilises an innovative design to significantly improve energy efficiency.
- Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) is set to invest approximately Rs 290 crore in the Upper Karnali Hydro-Electric Power Project.
- Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs has inaugurated the National Feeder Monitoring System (NFMS) Control Centre at Gurugram.
June 2024
- Russia is set to build Central Asia’s first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.
- Wärtsilä Oyj Abp has launched the world’s first large-scale 100% hydrogen-ready engine power plant.
- International Finance Corporation (IFC) has committed USD 105 million to part finance a 550-megawatt peak (MWp) solar power project in Bikaner.
- Adani Group has signed an MoU with Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) for a 570-megawatt (MW) green hydroelectric plant in Chukha province, Bhutan.
- Gujarat has bagged the 1st Rank award for the highest wind power installed capacity.
- The Government of India has approved new Interstate Transmission System (ISTS) schemes to evacuate 9 GW of renewable energy power from Rajasthan and Karnataka.
- A five-member Pakistani delegation inspected power projects in Jammu’s Kishtwar under the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), brokered by the World Bank.
May 2024
- Megha Engineering and Infrastructure (MEIL) secured India’s largest pump storage power project, the ‘2,000-megawatt Sharavathi pumped storage power project,’ associated with Karnataka.
- India’s fossil fuel-based power generation capacity increased by 2.44 percent recently.
- According to the ‘Global Electricity Review 2024’ by Ember, solar power’s share in global electricity production surged to 5.5 percent in 2023.
- Sri Lanka signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 20 years with Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) to develop wind power stations.
- Exicom Tele-Systems Limited launched India’s fastest Direct Current (DC) charger with a range of connector options and power outputs from 60 kW to 400 kW.

- Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) received the prestigious ATD BEST Awards 2024 for its strategic talent development approach driving business results.
April 2024
- TP Saurya Ltd (TPSL), a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd, commissioned a 200 MW solar project in Bikaner.
- Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) surpassed 10,000 megawatts (MW) of operational portfolio, contributing reliable, affordable, and clean power to the national grid.
- REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) handed over Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission Limited to Tata Power.
- Researchers from South Korea developed a high-power hybrid sodium-ion battery capable of ultra-fast charging.
- JSW Neo Energy Limited (JSW Neo) received a Letter of Award (LoA) to set up a 700 MW ISTS-connected solar power project from NTPC Limited.
- REC Limited signed an agreement to provide Rs 1,869.265 crores as Term Loan to Chenab Valley Power Project Private Limited (CVPPPL).
- SJVN Limited inaugurated India’s first Multi-purpose (Combined Heat & Power) Green Hydrogen Pilot Project at Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station in Jhakri, Himachal Pradesh.
- According to a recent report by IEEFA and Ember, Karnataka and Gujarat excelled in integrating renewable energy sources and decarbonizing their power sectors.
- Indian Bank partnered with Tata Power Solar Systems Limited (TPSSL) to promote solar energy adoption under Pradhan Mantri (PM) Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
March 2024
- PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) India Limited’s Talabira Thermal Power project in Sambalpur district, Odisha, valued at Rs. 27,000 crore.
- The 800 MW Unit 2 of NTPC’s Telangana Super Thermal Power Project was inaugurated by PM Modi in Peddapalli district.
- NTPC Limited inaugurated several power sector projects, including Unit 2 of the North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project in Jharkhand, a Fly Ash Based Light Weight Aggregate Plant in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, and a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Water to Green Hydrogen Plant at NTPC NETRA Campus in Greater Noida.

- PM Modi laid the foundation stone for various power projects, including the Singrauli Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-III in Sonebhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, and a Flue gas CO2 to 4G Ethanol Plant at Lara Super Thermal Power Station in Chhattisgarh.
- SJVN Limited commissioned its Raghanesda Solar Power Station in Banaskatha district, Gujarat, with a capacity of 100 MW.
- Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) received an order from NTPC Limited to set up the Singrauli thermal power project (Stage-III) in Sonebhadra District, Uttar Pradesh, with a total capacity of 1600 MW.
- SJVN Limited received an order for the development of Solar Power Projects of capacity 1,352 MW in Maharashtra under the Mukhya Mantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0.
- PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Dibang Multipurpose Hydropower Project of NHPC Limited in the Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh, with a total capacity of 2880 MW.

February 2024
- PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) India Limited’s Talabira Thermal power project, valued at Rs. 27,000 crore, in Sambalpur district, Odisha.
- The 3rd unit of the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant, with a capacity of 800 MW, is set to be established in Yamunanagar, Haryana.
- India and Russia have signed an agreement for cooperation in constructing additional nuclear reactors at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project site in Tamil Nadu.
- PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of NLC India Limited Barsingsar Solar Project, with a total capacity of 300 MW, near Barsingsar Thermal Power Station in Bikaner, Rajasthan.
- Two new Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) were inaugurated by PM Modi at Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS) Unit 3 and Unit 4.
- SJVN Limited commenced commercial operation of its 50 MW Gujrai Solar Power Station in Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh.
- PM Narendra Modi inaugurated NTPC’s Lara Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-I (2×800 MW) and laid the foundation stone of Stage-II (2×800 MW) in Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh.

- Reliance Power sells its 1,200 MW Kalai II hydroelectric project for Rs 128.39 crore to THDC India Limited, located in Arunachal Pradesh.
- NHPC Limited announces a ₹4,000 crore investment in the proposed 750 MW Kuppa Pumped Hydro Storage Project, situated in Gujarat.
- The 850 MW Ratle Hydro Electric Project in Jammu & Kashmir diverts the Chenab River through diversion tunnels at Drabshalla.

November-December 2023
- Recently, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has inaugurated the world’s largest single-site solar power plant “Al Dhafra Solar Farm”. Its total capacity is 1 Gigawatts.
- Recently, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with Electricité de France S.A., France (EDF) for cooperation on the Jaitapur Nuclear Power Plant Project in Maharashtra.
Maitree Super Thermal Power Project highlights:
- Implemented through an Indian Concessional Financing Scheme loan totalling USD 1.6 billion.
- Situated in Rampal, Khulna Division, Bangladesh, it features a 1320 MW (2×660) Super Thermal Power Plant.
- Oversight by the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (Private) Limited, a collaboration between India’s NTPC Ltd and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
- The first unit was jointly unveiled by both prime ministers in September 2022, with the second unit inaugurated subsequently.
October 2023
- The first 800 MW unit of phase 1 of the Telangana Super Thermal Power Project in Peddapalli was dedicated by the Prime Minister of India.
- The Competition Commission of India approved the acquisition of 100% shareholding in Lanco Amarkantak Power Limited by PFC Projects Limited, REC Limited, SJVN Limited, and Damodar Valley Corporation.
- NLC India Limited won an 810 MW Solar PV project capacity from Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Nigam Limited.
- NLC India Limited (NLCIL) plans to set up a 3 X 660 MW thermal power plant in Ghatampur near Kanpur.
- Solar Energy Corporation Of India surpassed the milestone of 50 GW aggregate capacity of agreements signed under Power Sale Agreements (PSAs).
- Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) and Biogas Plants registered on the GOBARdhan Portal are eligible for financial assistance under the Market Development Assistance (MDA) Scheme of the Department of Fertilizers.

August 2023
- Union Minister R. K. Singh inaugurated the 660 MW unit of NTPC’s Barh Super Thermal Power Project in the state of Bihar.

- National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) has started the 1st trial run of a Hydrogen Bus in Leh.
- Japan has begun its discharge of treated wastewater into the Pacific Ocean from the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant.

April-May 2023
- India has unveiled its intentions to establish a significant geothermal power plant in Arunachal Pradesh.
- The Jaitapur Nuclear Power Plant, making headlines recently, is a proposed nuclear power facility in Maharashtra.
- Recently, the state of Arunachal Pradesh has decided to sign an agreement with North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited for the development of five hydropower projects with a combined installed capacity of 2,820 MW.
Among these projects, Naying (1,000 MW) and Hirong (500 MW) will be handed over to NEEPCO, while Emini (500 MW), Amulin (420 MW), and Minundon (400 MW) will be developed by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited.
- Recently, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has announced plans to set up an ethanol plant in Una district, Himachal Pradesh, on 30 acres of land with a Rs 500 crore investment.
March 2023
- The 480 MW semi-reservoir “Phukot Karnali Hydropower Project,” featured in recent news, is a proposed project in Nepal.

- NHPC Limited has submitted the pre-feasibility report (PFR) for India’s largest hydropower project, the “Upper Siang Multipurpose Storage Project,” in Arunachal Pradesh, with a total electricity generation capacity of 11 GW.
- The Etalin hydroelectric power project in Arunachal Pradesh has been scrapped in its present form.
- Northern India’s largest floating solar power project of 2000 kWp has been inaugurated in Chandigarh.
