March 2024

  • The 800 MW Unit 2 of NTPC’s Telangana Super Thermal Power Project was inaugurated by PM Modi in Peddapalli district.
  • NTPC Limited inaugurated several power sector projects, including Unit 2 of the North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project in Jharkhand, a Fly Ash Based Light Weight Aggregate Plant in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, and a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Water to Green Hydrogen Plant at NTPC NETRA Campus in Greater Noida.

  • PM Modi laid the foundation stone for various power projects, including the Singrauli Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-III in Sonebhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, and a Flue gas CO2 to 4G Ethanol Plant at Lara Super Thermal Power Station in Chhattisgarh.
  • SJVN Limited commissioned its Raghanesda Solar Power Station in Banaskatha district, Gujarat, with a capacity of 100 MW.
  • Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) received an order from NTPC Limited to set up the Singrauli thermal power project (Stage-III) in Sonebhadra District, Uttar Pradesh, with a total capacity of 1600 MW.

February 2024

  • PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) India Limited’s Talabira Thermal power project, valued at Rs. 27,000 crore, in Sambalpur district, Odisha.
  • The 3rd unit of the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant, with a capacity of 800 MW, is set to be established in Yamunanagar, Haryana.
  • India and Russia have signed an agreement for cooperation in constructing additional nuclear reactors at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project site in Tamil Nadu.
  • PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of NLC India Limited Barsingsar Solar Project, with a total capacity of 300 MW, near Barsingsar Thermal Power Station in Bikaner, Rajasthan.
  • Two new Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) were inaugurated by PM Modi at Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS) Unit 3 and Unit 4.

November-December 2023

  • Recently, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has inaugurated the world’s largest single-site solar power plant “Al Dhafra Solar Farm”. Its total capacity is 1 Gigawatts.
  • Recently, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with Electricité de France S.A., France (EDF) for cooperation on the Jaitapur Nuclear Power Plant Project in Maharashtra.

Maitree Super Thermal Power Project highlights:

  • Implemented through an Indian Concessional Financing Scheme loan totalling USD 1.6 billion.
  • Situated in Rampal, Khulna Division, Bangladesh, it features a 1320 MW (2×660) Super Thermal Power Plant.
  • Oversight by the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (Private) Limited, a collaboration between India’s NTPC Ltd and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
  • The first unit was jointly unveiled by both prime ministers in September 2022, with the second unit inaugurated subsequently.

October 2023

  • The first 800 MW unit of phase 1 of the Telangana Super Thermal Power Project in Peddapalli was dedicated by the Prime Minister of India.

August 2023

  • Japan has begun its discharge of treated wastewater into the Pacific Ocean from the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant.

April-May 2023

  • India has unveiled its intentions to establish a significant geothermal power plant in Arunachal Pradesh.
  • The Jaitapur Nuclear Power Plant, making headlines recently, is a proposed nuclear power facility in Maharashtra.
  • Recently, the state of Arunachal Pradesh has decided to sign an agreement with North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited for the development of five hydropower projects with a combined installed capacity of 2,820 MW.
Among these projects, Naying (1,000 MW) and Hirong (500 MW) will be handed over to NEEPCO, while Emini (500 MW), Amulin (420 MW), and Minundon (400 MW) will be developed by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited.
  • Recently, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has announced plans to set up an ethanol plant in Una district, Himachal Pradesh, on 30 acres of land with a Rs 500 crore investment.

March 2023
